From Effective Bcs Action to Vortex Dynamics
The topological term in the effective action for the electrically neutral BCS system is discussed. It is applied for the calculation of the transverse force acting on the vortex in the limit of the smooth vor-tex core and vanishing interlevel distance in the vortex core. The controversy between the topological terms in cond-mat/9703124 and cond-mat/9411047 is resolved.
متن کاملFrom Feynman's wave function to the effective theory of vortex dynamics.
We calculate the overlap between two many-body wave functions for a superfluid film containing a vortex at shifted positions. Comparing the results to phenomenological theories, which treat vortices as point particles, we find that the results are consistent if the point-particle vortices are considered as under the action of the Magnus force and in weak interaction with sound waves of the supe...
متن کاملScattering theory from microscopic first principles
We sketch a derivation of abstract scattering theory from the microscopic first principles defined by Bohmian mechanics. We emphasize the importance of the flux-across-surfaces theorem for the derivation, and of randomness in the impact parameter of the initial wave function—even for an, inevitably inadequate, orthodox derivation. Dedicated to Joel Lebowitz, with love and admiration, for his 70...

متن کاملHeavy Quark Effective Theory beyond Perturbation Theory: Renormalons, the Pole Mass and the Residual Mass Term
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the perturbative series in the heavy quark effective theory (HQET) using the 1/Nf expansion. We find that this theory suffers from an ultraviolet renormalon problem, corresponding to a non-Borel-summable behaviour of perturbation series in large orders, and leading to a principal nonperturbative ambiguity in its definition. This ambiguity is related to an in...
